It is about a young boy who lives in a family with 6 brothers, in poverty in China, and Cunxin, his name, is chosen, when he is 11, to be part of the Beijing Dance Academy. He takes this chance, and studies ballet, as well as school subjects, there, for 5 years. The Water Dancer Summary. The Water Dancer is the first novel by Ta-Nehisi tells the story of Hiram Walker, who is born into slavery on a Virginia plantation called Lockless. i liked this book, but the protagonist was almost written to be unlikeable. While in the end she is sympathetic, you spend 90% of the book feeling like she is the antagonist. I say this as someone who recommends this book, but is warning future readers that you should only embark on this journey if you love the series and are patient.
